Logotherapy.

​​From the Greek word (λογότυπα) for ‘meaning,’ Viktor Frankl, a neurologist, psychiatrist, and Holocaust survivor, posits the pursuit of meaning and purpose in life as a central motivation for the human experience. In simplistic terms, logotherapy entails the following assumptions and pursuits:

• Life has meaning under all circumstances, even the most miserable ones.

• Our main motivation for living is our will to find meaning in life.

• We have the freedom to find meaning in what we do and what we experience, or at least in the stance we take when faced with a situation of unchangeable suffering.

Below is a list of media that I have utilized in my own pursuit of the meaning of life, as well as resources my clients have shared with me that they have used to discuss and process issues that have caused suffering.

Notes on how to use this list:

-this is not an exhaustive list of things that can help explore the meaning of life, many of these media are from an East Asian and/or queer context (mostly because that is my background)

-there may be adaptations and originals listed in multiple categories

-not all media may be accessible due to things like cost, language, culture, etc.

-for non-American Korean, Chinese, & Japanese creators’ names will be listed as: Surname Given-name
